Who is a Non-Resident?
You are a non-resident for SDLT purposes if:
- You spent fewer than 183 days in the UK in the 12 months before the purchase
- This applies to all purchasers (if buying jointly, all must be UK residents)
Refunds available: If you subsequently become UK resident (spending 183+ days in UK), you can claim a refund of the 2% surcharge within 2 years of purchase.
